About History Club

History Club began on the social media app Clubhouse in August 2020. In the midst of a pandemic, civil unrest and a bitterly contested U.S. Presidential election, History Club became a thoughtful, intellectual space to wrestle with the past and its effects on the present and future.

History Club met weekly, and over time grew into a community of 100,000 people. We hosted conversations on the Civil Rights movement, the filibuster in American history, and teaching the Holocaust on social media, among many topics.

Now, History Club has expanded to include written commentary, a podcast, and a magazine, while still hosting semi-regular shows on Clubhouse. This Substack provides commentary rooted in historical analysis, links to podcast episodes, and announcements about upcoming shows.

If you like to think critically about the world around you, go beyond sensational headlines and partisan talking points and delve into societal issues with nuance and complexity, History Club is for you. Subscribe for free, or become a Founding Member. All support goes directly back into History Club.
