Taking off on more adventures
Speak to you in September (which is amazingly right around the corner)
Hi there,
A quick note to let you know that I’ll be taking a few weeks off from newsletter writing.
Next week, I’ll be traveling to Berlin, Germany, for the 6th World Conference of the International Federation for Public History:
I’ll be speaking on two panels: one about history on social media (which I wrote about in my book) and one about history in video games (which I wrote about in April).
Following the conference, I’ll remain in Europe for a bit, partly for a summer holiday and partly for work- and book-related activities.
Speaking of my book, I was honored to learn that Highland, the historic estate of our 5th U.S. President James Monroe, has included History, Disrupted in its virtual book club this fall. They’ll be discussing the book on November 9th. Have a book club of your own? Consider adding History, Disrupted to your fall reading list.
And speaking of discussions, I was delighted to be invited back on the Professor Buzzkill Podcast this week to talk about the vintage newsreel that went viral.
More broadly, I’ve been toying with the idea of a new name and logo for this newsletter, as well as adjustments to the podcast / live shows, to make them more consistent and downloadable. Clubhouse recently changed its algorithm, so I want to learn how that affects the more than 100,000 people who’ve signed up to listen to History Club. (We still have close to 100 show topics that people want to hear about). A few weeks off will give me time to strategize. If you have thoughts or suggestions, feel free to email me.
Finally, there are some exciting initiatives / announcements I’ve been working on with colleagues. More on those in September.
Have a wonderful rest of summer, and see you back here in September. Stay in touch on Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram. You can also send me an email.
Stay safe,
-JS
